Best 15-Inch Gaming and Work Laptop for 2022

A 14- or 15-inch laptop from Dell, Lenovo, Apple, or Acer may be exactly right when 13 inches is too tiny and 17 inches is too big.

Traditional giants like Apple, HP, and Dell, as well as emerging laptop manufacturers like Acer, Lenovo, Asus, and Raze, have increased their 14-inch and 15-inch laptop options in recent years. Companies have expanded their 14-inch laptop lineups and shifted their marketing efforts away from 15-inch models. When it comes to size, I prefer 14-inch devices over 15- or 13-inch versions, at least when weight is taken into consideration. They just appear to be the group’s best blend of price, performance, and size. As a result, many of CNET’s top selections for the best 15-inch gaming laptop areā€¦ 14 inches.

These are the laptops we consider to be the best 14- and 15-inch laptops, ranging from budget to premium, based on:

  • Performance and battery life for a specific set of specifications and intended use. Where the configuration specifications include the amount of SSD storage and memory, the primary processor (CPU), graphics processor (GPU), and operating system (Mac OS or Windows)
  • Features for a certain weight class, such as laptop screen size, type (touchscreen or not), and resolution (4K, QHD, or FHD), ports (such as HDMI, Ethernet, and the type and number of USB connections), webcam, and fingerprint reader
  • Design, both aesthetically and functionally, such as keyboard layout and feel (many people desire a backlit keyboard and a numeric keypad on their laptops), build quality, upgradeability and reparability, and so on.

Specifications, price, and availability are constantly changing, especially these days due to chip shortages and shipping issues. So if you decide to wait, here are some recommendations for extending the life of your old laptop. If you do decide to go ahead, consider recycling it. As a result, we’ve limited our options to powerful laptop models that are still in production and have been thoroughly tested (or tested fundamentally similar older models with refreshed configurations).

If you want to go smaller, our overall list of best laptops and best Chromebooks include some 13-inch options. If you have more particular requirements, see our suggestions for the best gaming laptops, as well as our advice on purchasing a laptop that is suited for picture editing, video editing, and other creative jobs, as well as gaming laptops.

New models that we test and review add to this list on a regular basis. It’s a terrific place to start if you want to get a sense of what’s out there. If you’re unsure whether a certain laptop or two-in-one is perfect for you, check out our FAQ section below the list.

Acer Aspire 5
Best budget 15-inch laptop

The latest version of our perennial best budget laptop is still a good value for money. It’s difficult to find a low-cost device that’s also tiny and light, much alone one with adequate performance and battery life. The Aspire 5 line starts at $450, but that model only has 4GB of RAM, Which is insufficient for Windows to run smoothly. With a strong selection of connections (including USB-C, HDMI, and Ethernet. As well as USB-A) and easily upgradeable hard drive storage and memory. The slightly higher-end models hit all the necessary criteria and more. It’s built on a budget, but you can’t expect everything for that price. Read our review of the Acer Aspire 5 (2019).

Apple MacBook Pro 14

If you needed any more proof that 15-inch (and 17-inch) laptops are on their way out, Apple’s decision to phase them out is the final nail in the coffin. If weight and price are your primary considerations. And you don’t require much processing power, the smaller MacBook Air is the way to choose.

But, contrary to my colleague Dan Ackerman, I believe the MacBook Pro 14 is the greatest choice for most individuals. It is substantially more expensive, but it is significantly better in every manner. And I believe it will suit most people’s demands for a far longer period of time. (However, I agree that the MacBook Pro 13 M1 offers relatively little in comparison to the Air for the additional cost and weight.) The 14-inch, on the other hand, maybe configured similarly to the heavier and more expensive MacBook Pro 16, with the exception of the larger screen and the option for a faster GPU. Razer Blade 14
Best for work and play

The 14-inch returnee to Razer’s Blade laptop series is a considerably better dual-purpose laptop than my last choice, the 15-inch variant. It can be set to be nearly as powerful as the 15-inch. But it’s half the weight and you don’t really miss the extra screen real estate. If you prefer gaming to work or want a high-contrast screen. The 15-inch offers faster gaming displays as well as a 4K OLED option. We tested the RTX 3080 variant, but the substantially less expensive RTX 3070 model ($2,200) is likely a good alternative.

Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360
Best 15-inch for denizens of Samsung’s Galaxy

The outstanding battery life, high-contrast OLED screen, and abundance of cross-device capabilities it serves up for owners of Samsung’s Galaxy phones and accessories are the hallmarks of this thin and light 15-inch Windows two-in-one. It’s made for consumers who want a laptop experience that’s identical to their phone’s, with the same responsiveness. Our Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 review can be found here.

Lenovo Yoga 9i
Best 2-in-1

This refurbished and relaunched Yoga C940 remains one of our favorite two-in-ones, available in both 14- and 15-inch variants. It now has up to a quad-core Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor and discrete graphics from Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q. You also have the design versatility of a convertible, including kiosk mode (also known as “stand mode”) and tent mode (my personal favorite). Which are the greatest ways to utilize a laptop with a touchscreen that you keep around the house. Read our Lenovo Yoga 9i review to learn more.

Dell G5 15
Best 15-inch budget gaming laptop

With powerful performance, a variety of component options, and more travel- and user-friendly design than most, Dell’s G series includes some of the best mainstream gaming laptops available. Furthermore, battery life is far superior to that of a conventional gaming laptop. And a solid-performance base configuration costs less than $1,000. Check out our evaluation of the Dell G5 15 (2020).

Asus Chromebook Flip CM5
Best 15-inch Chromebook : Gaming Laptop

Gaming Laptop

Chromebooks are not connecting with video games. You now have a lot of options, thanks to cloud gaming services like Stadia, GeForce Now, and Xbox Game Pass, which can run on Chromebooks alongside Android and Linux games. The Asus Chromebook Flip CM5 is equipped to handle them, giving it one of the top Chromebook gaming options.

Costco had the combination we tested available for $600. Amazon occasionally has a $500 configuration of the Asus Chromebook Flip CM5, however, it has a somewhat slower Ryzen 3 processor, 4GB of memory, and 64GB of slower eMMC flash memory for storage. For normal use, that configuration is adequate, but spending an extra $100 (if you can) gets you a much superior Chromebook.

HP Chromebook x360 14c
Best 14-inch Chromebook under $500

Gaming Laptop

The HP Chromebook x360’s two-in-one design allows you to use it as a tablet (though it’s a little heavy to use as a handheld device), and 14 inches is considerably more comfortable to use than 15 inches. You may also use it as a compact all-in-one computer by tenting it and connecting an external keyboard and mouse.

Even with a couple of dozen tabs open and video streaming in the background, the HP Chromebook runs efficiently thanks to the Core i3 processor and 8GB of memory. In CNET’s tests, this Chromebook notebook lasted 10 hours and 40 minutes on a single charge.

Asus ZenBook Duo
Best dual-screen laptop : Gaming Laptop

Gaming Laptop

The Duo’s tilt-up second screen uses as an auxiliary display. An extension of the primary display (for viewing long web pages), or a separate control center. Where you can run Asus’ proprietary utilities or control surfaces for chosen creative programs. Furthermore, Asus excels at extracting every ounce of performance from their high-end laptops, and the 14-inch offers excellent battery life.

The Pro Duo 15 OLED is an update to the one we evaluated last year, with up to an Intel Core i9-10980HK processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 discrete graphics, and up to 32GB of RAM. The 2021 14-inch Duo 14 offers 11th-generation Core i5 or i7 low-power CPUs, optional Nvidia MX450 discrete graphics, and up to 32GB of RAM, making it much less powerful than the 15-inch but lighter and less expensive. Read our review of the Asus ZenBook Duo 14.
